There is a loneliness epidemic in our society that is slowly damaging our health. Our organisations are trying to fix our post-COVID isolation with “back to the office” mandates that cause as many problems as they solve. According to the Gallup organization, “Do you have a best friend at work?”, is one of the most powerful measures of employee engagement. But what do we really know about how to create useful connection at work and home?
Actually, we know more than we think we do. Specifically, we can craft the conditions for “developmental friendships,” those friendships that help us grow into the people we are striving to be. Given the vital importance of these friendships, it’s surprising that most of us—from leaders in organisations to anyone reading these words—treat these friendships as a matter more of luck than of skill or intention. Join us for an exploration into a different way to think about and approach these important relationships. You will leave with practical tools you can immediately use to (re)form your friendships, at work or elsewhere.
